Hatchery Roof: Complete

Monday, September 10th

As I thought, it was CRAZY for crawl counts. I got almost 30 tracks and Riikka got a little over 30 tracks for her side. It took me forever to get it done this morning. It was a great night for turtles though…I think we bought about 7 nests + donations. Willi brought about 20 something donations in the morning, so we probably doubled our egg count for the month.

After a crazy night and morning, I slept for awhile. Then, two new volunteers from Germany came and I gave them a tour and got them situated in the parque. In the afternoon, we all worked to finish putting palms on the hatchery. We also tied them down because the wind has been blowing them around and causing large spots of the hatchery to be unprotected from the sun. It looks great now!

You can see the green leaves we put on

For patrols, there were NO turtles! Not even tracks! It isn’t surprising though because when there is such a big night for turtles one night, the next couple nights are pretty quiet. When we got back, we released a bunch more babies! The nest almost hatched 100% too. There is only one egg that remains in the nest, which is great! Since there were no turtles, there weren’t too many people on the beach to worry about.
